Frequently asked questions

If you're new to kinesiology, you probably have questions — that's completely normal. Here's everything you might be wondering, from how it works to what a session actually feels like.

Understanding kinesiology

What is kinesiology, and how does it work?

+

Kinesiology is a gentle, hands-on way of working with the stress and emotion your body has been holding. It uses muscle testing to identify imbalances in the body, mind, and energy systems — accessing your body's own subconscious responses to help release emotional blocks, ease anxiety, and bring you back to a felt sense of balance.

How can kinesiology help with anxiety, low self-worth, and trauma?

+

Kinesiology addresses the root causes of emotional distress that get stored in the body — not just the surface symptoms. By identifying and releasing trapped emotions, it helps regulate your nervous system, rebuild self-confidence, and support genuine emotional wellbeing from the inside out.

What's the difference between kinesiology and traditional therapy?

+

Unlike talk therapy, kinesiology works directly with the body's energy systems to identify and clear emotional blocks — without needing to talk through everything in detail. For many people, that makes it gentler and less confronting, and it often brings relief more quickly because it reaches what the thinking mind alone can't.

Is kinesiology scientifically grounded?

+

Kinesiology is supported by qualified training and texts grounded in scientific principles — for example, Energetic Kinesiology: Principles and Practice by Charles Krebs and Tania McGowan, which sets out the basis of the practice.

Some people are quick to dismiss approaches involving energy because the effects aren't visible to the naked eye — but that doesn't mean they aren't real or effective. Traditional Chinese Medicine, which also works with the body's energetic systems, wasn't initially understood through modern science either, yet has helped countless people for centuries. Kinesiology works in a similar way — balancing the body's energy systems to support emotional and physical wellbeing.

How does muscle testing reveal emotional blocks?

+

Muscle testing involves applying light pressure to a muscle and noticing how it responds. A weaker response points to stress or imbalance connected to a particular issue — which lets Bonny gently locate and work with the underlying emotional blocks your body is holding.

The kinesiology session experience

What happens during a kinesiology session?

+

Once your booking is confirmed, you'll receive a new client intake form to complete beforehand, so Bonny understands where you're at. We start by sitting down together to talk about what's stressing you or holding you back — it could be around career, relationships, children, body image, friendships, or something you can't quite name. Then we explore how you'd like to feel instead, and shape that into an empowering goal for the session.

You make yourself comfortable on the massage bed (fully clothed) and rest your arm at a 45-degree angle. Bonny uses gentle muscle testing to identify the stress held in your mind-body system, and the natural, supportive techniques your body wants in order to come back into balance. To help you integrate the work at home, home remedies are often tested for you too.

Is the session hands-on, or do we just talk?

+

Sessions are mostly hands-on — gentle touch, muscle testing, and energy work. The talking mostly happens at the start, as we set your goal; from there, the focus moves to identifying and releasing the emotional patterns your body is holding.

Will I need to talk about my trauma in detail?

+

No. You don't need to discuss your trauma in detail. Kinesiology works with your body's responses, which means healing can happen without revisiting painful memories out loud. For many women, that's exactly what makes it feel safe enough to begin.

What should I wear to a session?

+

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that lets you move easily. It's best to avoid restrictive clothing or heavy jewellery.

Will I feel anything physically during the session?

+

You may notice sensations like warmth, tingling, or a feeling of lightness as things shift. Most clients feel relaxed, grounded, and calm by the end of a session.

Kinesiology results & benefits

How will I feel after a kinesiology session?

+

Most clients feel lighter, more relaxed, and emotionally clearer. Some feel tired or a little emotional afterwards as the body processes the changes — this usually settles within 24 to 48 hours.

How many sessions will I need to see results?

+

The number and frequency of sessions depends on you, your body, and how long you've been carrying the stress or symptoms. Everyone heals in their own time, and your body guides the process.

As a general guide, we recommend booking your second session about two weeks after your first — this keeps the momentum going and helps the initial shifts settle in. A third session usually follows two to three weeks later, then ongoing sessions every four to six weeks as needed.

Most clients find three to five sessions helpful for working through a specific stress or imbalance and reaching the root emotional cause. Healing is a little like peeling an onion — we gently release one layer at a time. Many people enjoy the support so much that they continue with regular four-to-six-weekly sessions as part of their long-term wellbeing.

Can kinesiology help with physical symptoms caused by stress?

+

Yes. By working with emotional stress and nervous system imbalances, kinesiology can help ease physical symptoms that stress creates — like headaches, fatigue, and muscle tension.

Is kinesiology safe for everyone?

+

Yes. Kinesiology is gentle, non-invasive, and suitable for all ages — from children to adults. It works safely alongside conventional treatments and other forms of care.

Can it help if I've tried other therapies without success?

+

Often, yes. Kinesiology frequently helps people who haven't found relief through other approaches, because it works with the emotional and energetic imbalances at the core — reaching what other methods sometimes miss.

Practical kinesiology questions

How long does a session last?

+

The initial consultation is 90 minutes. Follow-up sessions typically run 60 to 75 minutes, depending on what you need.

How much does a session cost?

+

The initial 90-minute session is $250, and follow-up sessions are $200. There's also a Healing Package — one initial session plus five follow-ups — for $1,000 (valued at $1,250). It's an investment in your emotional wellbeing: in feeling less anxious, more like yourself, and more able to move through life without carrying so much.

Do you offer online sessions? What do they look like?

+

Yes — online kinesiology sessions are available Australia-wide, so you can experience the same support from the comfort of home. We start the same way: talking about what you'd like to clear and how you want to feel, then shaping an empowering goal for the session.

For online sessions, Bonny uses a technique called surrogation — muscle testing on herself on your behalf — to identify the stress held in your nervous and energy systems, mind, and body, and the natural remedies that bring you back into balance. All you need to do is join the video call, find a quiet space, and settle in as if you were in the clinic together.

What if I feel nervous or unsure before my first session?

+

Feeling nervous is completely normal. Sessions are warm, compassionate, and free of any judgement — designed to help you feel safe, supported, and understood from the moment you arrive.

What if I don't notice immediate results?

+

Some concerns build up over years, so the deeper ones can take a little time to shift. Healing unfolds differently for everyone — some people feel an immediate change, others notice gradual improvement over time. Trust that your body is integrating the work at the pace that's right for you.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

+

Yes. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please give as much notice as you can. Bonny has a 24-hour cancellation policy — cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment are charged the full session fee. You can read the full details on the cancellation policy page.
